WRDR celebrated its 60th anniversary on August 31st 2017. The event was a great success in which WRDR received 2 proclamations from the Illinois House of Representatives, presented by Representative Natalie Manley, and the Illinois Senate, presented by Senator Pat McGuire, congratulating WRDR on 60 years of outstanding service to the Illinois communities. A special thanks to the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce for assisting in the party. Enjoy some photos of the fun filled event and cheers to 60 more years.

Feets of Fury was back at it again. On August 12th WRDR staff and some of their family members participated and conquered the Warrior Dash at Dollinger Farm in Channahon. Enjoy some photos from the muddy event. Also a big shout out to Jessica Thompson and Patricia McClintock for being our cheering squad and watching all the participants stuff while running the race. Their time was greatly appreciated.

As part of WRDR’s Feets of Fury Wellness Group, WRDR staff and their families participated in the Joliet Park District’s Sundowner 5K run, which was hosted at Pilcher Park on July 20th 2017. Although the day was warm, everybody did a great job and completed the whole run, but more importantly everybody had a great time. Enjoy a couple of photos from the event.

Community Events
David & Janet Meyer, Cathy Thomas, Natalie Manley & Alan La Veille, Tom & Chick Lancaster and Mary & Tom Lancaster attended the Great Chefs Tasting Party & Auction on Sunday, March 5, 2017 which benefited the Center for Disability Services (formerly UCP of Illinois Prairieland). This evening event took individuals back to the “Roaring Twenties” and included food sampling and entertainment, including Melvin seranading the crowd. A featured moment was the opening of the vault, just like when Geraldo Rivera hosted the opening of Al Capone’s vault, with hints being slowly revealed of what the vault package was and bidding on mystery prizes.
The Center for Disability Services aims to improve the quality of life for persons with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. CDS provides support and direct services to individuals and families impacted by the challenges of developmental disabilities, in addition to promoting community awareness and advocating for issues pertaining to those with developmental disabilities. The Greater Joliet Area YMCA held its 10th Annual Giving Gala at the Bolingbrook Golf Club on Saturday February 25th. WRDR’s manager, Christy Ely, and her husband, Eric, attended the black tie event. During dinner, they enjoyed conversation with Board members, Mr. Nick Macris and his family and Mrs. Beth Laken and her husband, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kelly. Also amongst the crowd was Mr. and Mrs. Mike Noonan. Eric and Christy were gladdened when their dear friend Ms. Stephanie Kessler and her friends of Illinois Valley Industries, Inc. were part of the video presentation and welcomed as special guests at the Gala. Eric and Christy brought home a silent auction package to their 10 yr old daughter who is an active member at the YMCA Morris branch titled “Fun Times With the Family”.
The Greater Joliet Area YMCA has been serving families—regardless of age, income or background—from throughout Will County and its surrounding areas since 1928. A mainstay in the Joliet community for more than 85 years, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health, and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. On the evening of February 1, 2017, WRDR’s manager, Tom Lancaster, spent the evening at the Rialto Theatre downtown Joliet celebrating Eighty Years United with the United Way of Will County. Tom Lancaster is pictured below with Mike Trafton, Executor Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties, David form First Midwest Bank, and Lynne Lychtenauer and Senator Pat McGuire. Thank you to United Way of Will County for helping those in need in our community since 1937!
